The UK Film Council commissioned Media Consulting Group and NARVAL to produce Stories We Tell Ourselves: The Cultural Impact of UK Film 1946-2006. There has been a gradual and growing recognition of UK film as a powerful cultural agent, this year perhaps even more than usual, but the impact British cinema has on the way we identify ourselves was previously un-chartered territory. This study analysed 200 iconic films and appreciates the strength, the diversity and the rude health of our film heritage in addition to acknowledging its increasingly vital role in contemporary culture.
